Giftedness, Neuro-Diversity, Bipolar disorder & Inflammation

"At GRO, we join many other organizations in favoring the Columbus Group definition of giftedness:

"Giftedness is asynchronous development in which advanced cognitive abilities and heightened intensity combine to create inner experiences and awareness that are qualitatively different from the norm. This asynchrony increases with higher intellectual capacity. The uniqueness of the gifted renders them particularly vulnerable and requires modifications in parenting, teaching, and counseling in order for them to develop optimally."

GIFTEDNESS & INFLAMMATION

There are some FUZZY FOUNDATIONAL IDEAS around PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS and some that are JUST WRONG.

One of those ideas was that INFLAMMATION was associated with LOWER INTELLIGENCE --- NOT HIGH INTELLIGENCE.

That is why the Gro-gifted paper is so important ---- because it starts linking INFLAMMATION with "GIFTEDNESS."

Further, there's this whole LINGUISTIC Diplomacy and Bomb Throwing when it comes to EMOTIONS --- INTENSITY/REACTIVITY.

If you're "Gifted" and "High Status"  --- your outbursts of  EMOTIONAL INTENSITY are largely OVERLOOKED and need to be understood in the CONTEXT OF THE TALENTED PERSON YOU ARE.

If you're Not Perceived as "Gifted" and or "High Status" --- you're much more likely to be labeled "REACTIVE" and "LACKING EMPATHY."

So both of these COMMON APPROACHES are CAUSING PROBLEMS in our society.

Some of those JUST WRONG IDEAS don't belong to FREUD or the LOBOTOMISTS --- some of those JUST WRONG IDEAS are entrenched in MODERN PSYCHIATRY.

To appreciate how entrenched those WRONG IDEAS are, one need look no further than:
  • A DSM 5 the National Institute of Mental Health determined lacked SCIENTIFIC VALIDITY because it was not tied to the UNDERLYING BIOLOGY.   When did that happen --- 2013.
  • UNDERFUNDED Translational Research and Medicine that will get everyone up to speed in 20 years.

In fairness, it doesn't seem to get much more COMPLICATED than PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS --- and some of the DISCOVERIES of the last 10 to 20 years are making it much more apparent that some of our traditional ideas are OFF COMPLETELY and many other ideas are not WRONG "exactly" but they are part of much more COMPLICATED PROCESSES.

Additionally, this is EXHIBIT "A" with respect to the problems of INFORMATION OVERLOAD ---- even if there is a lot of RESEARCH INFORMATION out there ----- it requires ENORMOUS RESOURCES to SYNTHESIZE, INTEGRATE into not only CLINICAL PRACTICE --- but when it comes to PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS --- LEGAL PRACTICE as well.

The largest institutions for people with "MENTAL ILLNESSS" are JAILS & PRISONS.  There may be more people in the JEFFCO JAIL with "Mental Illness" than CMHIP (Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo).

Many of the NEW PARADIGMS are seeming to get much closer to REALITY:
  • Psychiatric Disorders start out with DEVELOPMENTAL DIFFERENCES,
  • Those Developmental Differences involve among other things INFLAMMATION, the IMMUNE SYSTEM and EPIGENETIC CHANGES.
  • Psychiatric Disorders also involve the MICROBIOME and the ENDOCRINE SYSTEM.
  • Psychiatric Disorders are BLURRED and not distinct as presented in the DSM 5.
  • Internationally renowned ADHD Colorado Psychiatrist Dr. Bill Dodson's insight into REJECTION SENSITIVE DYSPHORIA seems to have application that is BROAD and appears to go a long way to explaining OUT OF PROPORTION INTENT --- which is the defining feature of CRIMINAL INTENT.

Bipolar Disorder (2016)
See 3:18:  Bipolar linked to the EXCEPTIONALITIES in the Humanities  -- above average, below average -- the main thing -- NOT AVERAGE.

We've posted the video above several times --- this time it is with possibly a little more insight ---- and a LENS OF INFLAMMATION.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CORRELATIONS WITH GIFTEDNESS -- Gro-gifted.org

Especially when we focus on the highly and profoundly gifted population, we see a higher incidence of anxiety, depression, introversion, as well as a higher incidence of certain medical conditions than is found among the general population. For instance, clinicians associated with GRO have seen higher incidence of the following among highly and profoundly gifted individuals in their practice:

Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS)
Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS)
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)
Epstein Barr Syndrome (EBS)
gastrointestinal problems
Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth
Parkinson’s Disease
Hormonal Disorders
Celiac Disease
Asthma
Allergies
Other autoimmune diseases
